Thasos
 Verdurous. Deep
blue. Scenic and unpredicta-ble. Thassos Island long-suffering and glorified.
Thasos Island which gave birth to sculptures,
painters, rhetoricians and famous athletes, but mostly to simple men
of the sea and earth, men who suffered and fought
for their land. Rich forests of Thassian pines, black pines and
Macedonian pines cover the entire island. Scenic small villages are
revealed among the forests or nearby the seaside. Feast of colors
and sceneries vary from the green-blue of the sea, to the white of
the houses and marbles, or the green of the pines. Lacy seashores,
rough rocks, unsighted caves and natural ponds offer the chance for
thrilling experiences. Herodotus refers the occurrence of
"intrinsic" gold, even if this has not been verified until today.
However, the small paradise that you can discover in Thassos,
reminds you that there are things in life much more valuable than
the entire gold of the world. Discover it!

Antiquities

theatre of Thassos is built inside a natural cavity of the hill and
leaning against the wall;
according to
Hippocrates, it must have been built here as early as the 5th
century B.C.....[

The custom of leap of fire
The
discovery of fire constitutes the greatest conquest and success of man in
his cultural course. We can certainly say that this was a big step
to man’s evolution, passing from the animal state into human. Since
man realized that fire produces heat and that it could be useful for the
improvement of his life conditions, he distinguished from the other
animals. Fire existed always on earth as it is one of its components.
