Kinira

Kinira is one of the most beautiful villages of the eastern part of Thassos. Its name has been well - known since the ancient times. All the wider area is full of ancient objects of the Archaic and Roman era. There is lush greenery because of the springs of the surrounding slopes and is correctly considered one of the blessed places of the island. Some decades ago, the permanent residents were only a few, mainly fishermen and stock-farmers, but during the olive - picking season, called 'maxouli' by the locals, it was overcrowded. Even nowadays there are a few residents in the village, but the area is being developed as one of the most touristy places because it provides beautiful beaches with crystal water.

There is a small private island belonging in the Kinira region, called Kiniriotiko, which is uninhabited and it is full of pine trees, wild olive trees and not much greenery. The beaches are rocky and steep but the fishermen say that the sea is one of the richest in fish on the island. The owner's house can still be seen. The visitors can go to the island by boat as in the old times but the most visitors are fishermen nowadays. Dolphins have been recently seen in the sea around the island.

Beautiful Kinira is famous for its peaceful and magnificent landscape and the beach ' Paradisos', which is one of the best - known beaches in Greece. The coming to the beach is via a narrow road that passes  through a small wood. It is not a very long  beach but its shallow, cold and wavy water makes it  really exotic. The colour of the sea is light blue and there are some rocks near the  beach which are the favourite place for nudists. The small wood above the beach used to be ideal for camping and it used to be full of caravans and tents every summer but free camping is prohibited now….
